Huw Tregelles Williams organ

Faure Requiem and music by composers in their anniversary years:  :  Purcell,  Handel, Haydn and Mendelssohn

A memorable performance expressed through conductor John S.Davies, organist Huw Tregelles Williams and the Singers, of Faure’s masterpiece with outstanding solo items by members of the Singers, Sophie Davies and Allan Smith. This haunting version of the mass, altered in text content by the composer was sung with great sensitivity which obviously moved the crowded Church.

Music in the second half of the concert featured works by this year’s plethora of towering music geniuses. The contralto soloist, Jenny Pearson, again from the Singers, sang with great feeling the famous aria O rest in the Lord from Mendelssohn’s Elijah. The programme ended with the triumphant Then shall the righteous shine forth, from the same work.

All present entered enthusiastically when invited to sing Haydn’s famous tune Austria, words by John Newton - Glorious things of thee are spoken
